NIH to increase pay levels for pre- and postdoctoral scholars at grantee institutions

NIH is enhancing pay for recipients of the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSA) to support talent retention and attraction. Predoctoral scholars will receive a 4% raise, bringing their pay to $28,224, while postdoctoral scholars will see an 8% increase, with pay levels starting at $61,008. These adjustments, influenced by recommendations from the NIH Advisory Committee, aim to bolster the biomedical research workforce. While not meeting the full recommended increase, NIH plans to gradually raise stipend funding levels over the next five years. Additionally, recipients will receive an extra $500 for childcare subsidies and an additional $200 for training-related expenses.
