What is your job like at Carter Inc.? What is the day-to-day like working with companies in the life sciences and biotech industry?
My role at Carter, Inc. centers on business development and managing the company’s internal operations. On a daily basis, I collaborate with our project managers to scope, price, and schedule upcoming projects, ensuring that all timelines and budget considerations align with client expectations. Much of this work involves direct communication with stakeholders in the life sciences and biotech industries—including facility managers, lab users, and equipment vendors—to coordinate the delivery and installation of specialized equipment. These projects are often time-sensitive, so a key part of my role is making sure everything is in place to meet critical milestones, such as occupancy permits or research startup dates.
In addition to my core responsibilities, I serve on our facilities committee. Through this role, I help support Carter, Inc.'s commitment to growing the visibility and impact of the life sciences and biotech industry in our region and beyond.
What got you interested in working in facilities for the life sciences and biotech industry?
Carter, Inc. began in corporate and healthcare relocation project management, which gave us deep experience in coordinating complex moves, managing tight timelines, and ensuring smooth transitions into new or renovated spaces. That background gave us a solid understanding of what it takes to deliver successful capital projects—from planning and scheduling to stakeholder coordination and execution. As we encountered more opportunities in the life sciences and biotech sectors, we quickly recognized that while these projects have added complexity, the core principles were familiar to us.
Over time, we immersed ourselves in learning the nuances specific to labs and research environments—such as specialized equipment handling, regulatory requirements, and the importance of minimizing downtime for critical operations. That learning curve sparked a genuine interest in the sector and has led to a strong, long-term commitment to supporting the facilities that power innovation in life sciences and biotech. We've since evolved our services to proactively manage the unique needs of these organizations, offering tailored solutions for everything from lab fit outs and equipment installations to relocations and facility support.
What is a trend in the life sciences / biotech industry that you are excited about?
There’s a lot to be excited about—especially here in North Texas. Over the past few years, it’s been inspiring to watch the region come together with a shared commitment to growing the life sciences and biotech sectors. We’re seeing an unprecedented level of collaboration among organizations, institutions, and community leaders, all working toward a common goal. Even more exciting is the growing focus on developing the skilled workforce needed to sustain and expand this momentum.
So many individuals and organizations have contributed to building this ecosystem, and it's been incredibly rewarding to witness the impact up close. At Carter, Inc., we’re proud to play even a small role in supporting that growth—helping bring projects to life and sharing the larger story of what's happening in the region. We’re proud to contribute to the progress and help amplify the region’s collective vision—because when an industry thrives, it lifts everyone involved.
